The North/Central Florida Veterans Support Organization began their Journey on February 29, 2008 to the 67th Annual Daytona Bike Week. Once again, the VSO members were welcomed with open arms by our biker brothers and sisters so that we may serve our brother veterans in need. This year we were able to do something special for some homeless veterans. As some of our veteran members were collecting donations, they happened to find a couple of homeless veterans that were at bike week trying to have a place to hang out and be safe. As it turns out our members recruited these homeless veterans, turned them into VSO members and got them off the streets. They now have a secure job, housing, and are on the road to recovery. They enjoy what they are now doing as VSO members, “Making a difference, one donation at a time”. For the duration of Bike Week our members, dressed in BDU’s and armed with our newest collection buckets, passed out American Flag Pins, and collected donations at various locations on Main St., Beach St., and also on US 1 in Ormond Beach. The donations collected during Bike Week will be distributed to the Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home.
We would like to give a personal thank you to some of the people who made fundraising possible during Biketoberfest 2008:
